Languages connect people, cultures and societies. Learning a new language introduces you to an entirely new world and a new culture. Knowing the importance of learning a new language, Hugo decided to learn Arabic. Here is his story.
Hugo is a resident of Maida Vale, which is a part of the City of Westminster. He is a frequent visitor to Edgware Road as it is situated between his home and workplace. Let’s tell you about Edgware Road first. It is a 10-miles stretch of road in London and a part of Watling Street with Roman origins. The southern part of this road is popular among Londoners, and is known as the Middle Eastern district among locals. This part has various shisha cafes and bars which are commonly known as Little Cyprus, Little Beirut, Little Cairo, etc. These Arabic themed cafes and bars have text written on the walls and doors in the Arabic language.
Seeing the exotic looking text everyday tempted Hugo to try the delicious cuisine– this is how he became interested in learning about the Arabic culture. He opted to learn the Arabic language with the Nassra Arabic Method and soon realised that it is an extremely interesting and easy-to-learn language. Hugo’s exposure to Arabic also led him to explore and fall in love with the rich culture and history of the Arabs.
Why should you Learn Arabic?
Arabic is the 5th most spoken language in the world with over 300 million native speakers. Not only are these statistics reason enough to learn this unique language, but learning Arabic can also be fun. Here is what motivated Hugo to learn the language and fall in love with the Arabic culture.
Unique Language
Arabic is an expressive and straightforward language with unique vocabulary. The choice of Arabic words greatly depends on the context of a sentence. The cognitive performance of your brain improves when you learn new vocabulary and brainstorm to make the right choice of words from the vast Arabic vocabulary.

As mentioned above, there are over 300 million native Arabic speakers. This means that by learning Arabic, you can connect with 300 million people and learn about their unique culture, lifestyle and history. Becoming fluent in the language can help build a cross-cultural connection between you and Arabic speakers from all over the world. This can help bridge the gap between Western and Eastern cultures by providing an opportunity to view this often misunderstood culture from an insider perspective.
Increased Exposure
Arabic language has a long and complicated history that touches various parts of the world. You might have wondered about Dubai’s unique lifestyle compared to other Arabic countries or the influence of Arabic on various other languages. By learning Arabic, you can study different philosophies and schools of thought on various subjects. For example, by reading Arabic literature on the subject of love and humanity, you can gain valuable insights into the native culture and customs.
Smart Tourism/Employment
Middle Eastern countries have become popular not only for tourism but also for employment opportunities. If you love travelling to Arab countries, then learning the Arabic language can open many doors for you. It will help you travel like a local, communicate effectively with locals and even allow you to seek employment opportunities in exotic locations like Dubai.
