Omar Nassra gave me twelve Arabic lessons in April – June 2014. I was a complete beginner. I found Omar an excellent teacher and achieved more in the limited time available to me than I had expected. I learned the alphabet, and am now able to read and write; we covered some basic grammar; I gained a reasonable vocabulary (perhaps 300 – 400 words) in areas relevant to my forthcoming job as Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Riyadh and to life there; and I feel I have an understanding of the way in which Arabic works – sentence construction etc. All in all, this should help considerably as I assimilate the culture in Saudi Arabia, and gives me sound framework for further study in-country. Omar was friendly, patient and clear, understanding my needs and pitching the lessons appropriately. I have no hesitation in recommending him as a teacher of Arabic. Nahed is an excellent teacher of Levantine Arabic, I was starting from a complete beginner level and Nahed guided me though the arabic script introducing new letters and words when she thought that I was ready. I found her personal and very friendly approach encouraged me and I greatly enjoyed my lessons. Nahed has been an excellent teacher of Levantine Arabic. I particularly found her personal and friendly approach conducive to a good environment for me to learn the language. She also tailored the lessons when she knew that I could read, write and speak Modern Standard Arabic well. I have been taking colloquial Levantine lessons with Nahed for about 6 months now. Having taken Fusha lessons a few years ago and been disappointed with the lack of progress in my speaking, I was surprised to find that Nahed got me to a basic conversational level so quickly! Although she uses a course plan she is great at tailoring lessons to focus on any of your weaknesses or on any topics that may be of particular interest to you. She is patient, encouraging, and very personable. She has a passion for the Levantine dialect that is contagious! I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone.

Nahla has now been giving me classes for the past 4 weeks or so, and I can gladly say that I’m more than happy with the way the course is being managed, organised, planned and presented. Nahla is very easy to get on with, she is understanding and flexible in the fact that we are working at my pace; not too fast, and not too slow. The fact that Nahla has her origins in Syria, offers a unique insight in to accent, dialect and local idioms of the Syrian dialect (which I am learning) which otherwise may not have been given by different tutors.I realise that I am the student with the most hours given on Nahla’s schedule, and I appreciate this very much; we have 12 hours a week together, and i can honestly say that it is a pleasure to be in each other’s company, I feel like i’m making fast progress.

I have been studying Arabic with Nivien for almost a year and I have thoroughly enjoyed my classes with her. I began studying Egyptian dialect with Nivien Helmy in January 2014 through London Arabic Tuition, and am very pleased that I chose this route of study. I travel to Egypt regularly but had no previous knowledge of Arabic at all – I was a complete beginner! But as many of the people I know and spend time with in Egypt have limited English, it was time for me to learn to speak their language! Nivien has been a fantastic tutor. While my main focus was to learn conversational Arabic, with the ability to speak over the phone, I have also learned to read and write basic script. Nivien always made an effort to ensure that her teaching was focussed on what I needed, not just teaching straight out of a textbook, and she was always happy to answer my varied questions about Egyptian life, customs and norms which was immensely helpful in gaining a better understanding not just of the language, but of Egyptian culture. I enjoyed working with Nivien very much – she is a highly competent language tutor, always so helpful, patient and understanding of the hurdles English speakers face when learning Arabic. Even better, my Egyptian friends have complimented me on the progress I have made in such a short time, something that I never would have been able to achieve in a group class or online course. Learning a new language can be challenging but I have thoroughly enjoyed my journey into Arabic so far. I am thrilled with the results that I have achieved, and would recommend Nivien and London Arabic Tuition to anyone who is serious about learning Arabic. |

After getting stuck and frustrated with learning MSA in typical group courses with 10 or more classmates I moved to London Arabic Tuition. London Arabic Tuition customises lessons to your individual needs and moves away from typical textbook teaching methods. The learning experience gets further enhanced the smaller the learning group is. As I am learning Arabic out of interest only, I am focussing mainly on learning how to speak in spoken Arabic which is different (and easier) than MSA. Speaking Arabic is initially all about using the words you learned and not about endless vocabulary and grammar. And guess what: soon I was able to chit-chat with my local dry-cleaner and to read the signs on Middle-Eastern Stores in London. And besides all this, the lessons are a lot of fund and always pass very quickly, as diverse teaching methods are applied. The only thing I wish for is that I had more spare time to study Arabic |
